Invasion of Privacy
Consumers are protected by a federal law called the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Consumers who have had personal information unlawfully accessed may have a claim for damages under this act. The law firm of Tarshish Cody PLC defends the rights of consumers under the FCRA, as well as the Drivers Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) and the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA). A consumers’ credit report has important, private information that may not be shared with others without the consumer’s permission. For example, businesses are prohibited from printing the expiration date on consumers’ credit cards, or more than the last five numbers from a consumer’s credit cards.
If merchants fail to abide by this law, a consumer may seek legal counsel to discuss damage claims. Call the attorneys at Tarshish Cody PLC to schedule a free initial consultation.
