Minnesota Talus Fracture Attorney
The Talus bone is a bone in the ankle that connects the leg to the foot with ligaments. Motor vehicle accidents cause many Talus fractures and can result in swelling, bruising and severe pain. Talus fractures can lead to a variety of long-term complications if they go untreated or do not heal properly, such as arthritis, immobility, and chronic pain.
In order to diagnose a Talus fracture, the doctor will order x-rays and possibly a CT scan of the foot and ankle to determine the exact location of the fracture. Doctors will then assess the blood supply to the joint and foot and look for any nerve damage that may have resulted from the Talus fracture. In some cases, surgery may be required to remove loose bone fragments within the foot.
Recovery from surgery typically means wearing a cast for 6-8 weeks and making sure the ankle does not bear any weight for at least three months. Arthritis may also develop following the surgery, regardless of whether the fracture is healing properly. Treatment for arthritis can include wearing an ankle-foot brace, modifying your amount of activity, bone grafting or even undergoing an ankle replacement.
