Minnesota Hyphema Attorney
If your injury is a result of another person’s negligence and you have developed hyphema, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact Tarshish Cody PLC on 612-808-8999 to learn more about hyphema and to discuss the details of your case.
What is Hyphema?
When blood accumulates in the front chamber of the eye, between the iris and cornea, this condition is called hyphema. When the eye sustains a direct hit, the blood vessels in the iris can break, causing them to lead blood into the anterior chamber and combine with the clear aqueous fluid, resulting in blurred vision. The blood may pool at the bottom of the iris or appear as a reddish tinge to the eye.
Symptoms and Treatment
Eye trauma victims need to be aware of other symptoms when the blood is not visible:
- sensitivity to light
- blurred vision
- pain in the eye
- increased eye pressure
The blood can be reabsorbed without treatment in mild cases of hyphema, however in more severe cases, treatment can include:
- using ice packs
- avoiding strenuous activity
- bed rest and elevating head to 45-60 degrees with both eyes closed
- removing the blood if the eye pressure increases
- using eye drops
Avoid taking NSAIDs or aspirin because they are blood thinners and can cause additional bleeding.
Complications of Hyphema
To obtain the best recovery, it is important to follow treatment instructions to avoid any complications of hyphema, including:
- glaucoma
- recurring bleeding
- cornea damage (causing permanent cloudy vision)
- vision loss
