Minnesota Patella Fracture Attorney
A patella fracture is most common from sports accidents, bicycle or motorcycle accidents or pedestrian accidents.
If a patella fracture is suspected, an x-ray will be taken to confirm the type and degree of the fracture. A patient will also perform a straight leg raise test to test whether the quadriceps muscle is functioning and if it still attached to the shin bone. Surgery may not be required if a patient can perform a straight leg raise test however the knee will need to be supported in a brace or long leg cast to start the recovery process.
Surgery will be required if the patient is unable to perform the straight leg raise test to align the fracture and secure it in place with screws, pins and rods.
Complications from surgery can arise in a patella fracture. The metal implant can cause a significant amount of pain, especially when kneeling, and the patient could experience stiffness, arthritis, infection and chondromalacia. A second surgery is often required to remove the metal implant.
The patella is an important body part that provides strength to the knee joint. When you experience a patella fracture, the recovery time can be long-term, meaning having to take time off of work.
If your patella injury is at the cost of another person’s negligence, it is important that you seek legal advice immediately because you could have a compensation claim on your hands. You deserve justice to repay those medical bills and recover lost wages.
